Greater Washington Coalition for Jewish Life

Celebrating Jewish Life in Western Connecticut

Welcome to the site of the Greater Washington Coalition for Jewish Life (GWCJL or “Coalition”). Our organization meets monthly for Friday night worship as well as for Jewish Holidays, life cycle events, Jewish study and programs that present Judaism in a relevant, interactive way (described herein).  We respect and observe the three principles of Judasim: worship, study and acts of loving kindness.

We welcome all who seek knowledge about or a relationship with the Jewish faith and people, regardless of gender, race, marital status, sexual orientation, ethnic background or political affiliation.  People with all approaches to Judaism are encouraged to participate whether they consider themselves Reform, Reconstructionst, Conservative, Orthodox, Jews by choice or are in an interfaith relationship. Our membership is comprised of both full and part time residents, and join us from a variety of towns in the region.

What I Love About the Coalition

Worship

Join the community for Friday Evening Shabbat service and dinner in a member’s home. Celebrate the High Holidays, Sukkot, Passover and Shavuot together.

Learn

"All Things Jewish Considered" (ATJC) is our study group. Join Rabbi James Greene to discuss timely topics with Biblical, Rabbinic and contemporary texts.

Jewish Culture

Attend lectures by noted Jewish speakers. View a film of Jewish interest or gather in a book group discussion. Experience Shavuot and other Jewish holidays through the lens of nature.

Community

Help someone who is ill or suffers a loss. “Coalition Cares” is there. Collect used coats and sweaters for the needy. Work in the Judea Garden, plant and harvest crops for those who have less.
